Personal Branding vs. Headshots

A headshot introduces you;

Personal Branding introduces your business.

Personal Branding differs from headshots in many important ways. Headshots serve as an introduction to you as a person, while Personal Branding photography provides a vast array of marketing resources for you and your business. Continue reading to determine which one is best for you.

What is personal branding?

“A personal brand is rooted in the minds of people in the market. Personal branding is the effort to communicate and present your value to the world.”

Branding, or personal branding, is more than just a headshot or logo. Branding is the visual representation and definition of your business and what it has to offer. We believe that personal branding is essential for individual entrepreneurs and business owners to “soft-sell” their business and services in a visual market. Resources abound when searching for soft and personal branding solutions.

The term “personal branding” was introduced in 1997 by a gentleman named Tom Peters. Peters told us that no matter what industry we work in, or where we live, we’re all CEOs of our own personal brand, and that means that we must market ourselves just as vigorously as any product or service.

If you are an entrepreneur or business owner, you’re probably reading this to determine if you need to expand the visual library of your brand. We believe you already have the notion of “your brand” as an individual or a company that you now wish to share with your clients/customers to give them inspiration and confidence in you.

In order to gain a customer’s trust, you need to let them know that you provide wisdom, compassion, guidance and true value.  We are here to help you do that.

When planning your personal branding session, we work with you establish goals:

  • How do you want to be seen?
  • What is it that you do/provide?
  • What do you stand for?
  • Do your photographs represent you/your brand and the energy you bring to your business?
  • Will they make potential clients want to meet you in person?
  • Do your photographs create trust in you?
  • Do they show the real you now?
  • Will your photographs show the real you that you are becoming?

Your place or mine?

Have you ever thought of having your professional business headshot session take place in your own work environment?

12251 Jennifer did and I’d say that it was a great idea. Although we have a studio location available for professional portraits or corporate headshots, sometimes it is better to photograph you in your own environment.

Your environment says a lot about you, your style and your profession. It helps your viewers know more about you. And it gives us unique backgrounds and settings. I love the variety of portraits we were able to capture at Makeup Eden.

And they danced to the light of the moon…

Super Moon.
Super Moon.

I LOVE this photo and it reminds me of the poem “The Owl and the Pussycat”

A beautiful young couple, the historic architecture of downtown Salem and a Super Moon: what more could we have asked for?
We photographed Tom and Cecily’s wedding ceremony on July 11th at St. John’s Church in Beverly Farms and their reception at Colonial Hall in downtown Salem, MA. We went out to take a photograph with the great architecture of the brick building in the background and timed it perfectly so we could capture the Super Moon in a crevice between the buildings in the upper right section of the photograph! The moon stayed with us only for a few minutes, just long enough to capture this unforgettably romantic image.

Ben’s Bar Mitzvah!

A Bar Mitzvah is a rite of passage filled with ritual and tradition. And I love that part of it!

I was fortunate enough to photograph Ben’s Parents Wedding!  I feel like I’m part of the family!

And this guy was having the time of his life! He danced all night to the rocking tunes of DJ Maverick and quite frankly I don’t know how he could walk by the end of the night.

Beautiful flowers were arranged by Jeri Solomon from Jeri Solomon Floral Design.

Food was fabulous and catered by The Catered Affair  with Toby keeping her watchful eye on everything to making sure it came out on time and perfect. Kelly Delaney from Cakes for Occasions made this unique cake. Ben chose a sports theme. Check out the cool uniforms on the cake.

ImageWe learned how many special people Ben has in his life.
